Anaheim Higher Education Center, NOCCCD | Anaheim, California
Done in conjunction with the design team at tBP/Architecture
North Orange County Community College District (NOCCCD) purchased an 11 story hospital building where they wanted to create a new campus and expand their higher education services. Six floors of the building encompassing 270,000 sf, needed to be converted into classrooms, offices, a culinary art school, a child development center, administration & registration, book store, board room, teleconferencing rooms and their district offices. The District had an unyielding schedule of only 18 months from the start of design to completion of construction and installation of furniture.
As one of the lead designers on the project, Amy Steiner carefully space planned all the program requirements to fit efficiently into the exterior shell of the building. With use of aesthetically pleasing and durable materials and finishes, a cohesive design was created throughout the building. Amy met with over 200 end users to identify all their furniture and equipment needs and coordinated that information with the furniture dealer. Because of the tight schedule, much of the design took place during the construction process. By responding immediately with solutions to many unforeseen circumstances uncovered during construction and working diligently with her team, including the client, consultants and contractor throughout the entire process, the project was a success and completed on time.
